Who are we?

The Agricultural Bureau is a voluntary organisation of farmers and people allied to, or interested in, agricultural development and education. The Bureau meets regularly to exchange ideas, discuss farming practices and keep abreast of the latest developments in all phases of agriculture. The Bureau also helps bridge the gap between scientist and farmer.

The organisation is non-partisan and non-political. It allows members to work together on management and marketing issues.

In 1887 Albert Molineux suggested the establishment of an Agricultural Bureau in South Australia. He recognized the need for an organization which could assist the education of primary producers and allow farmers to come together to discuss their farming issues.

On 27 February 1888, the Government adopted this suggestion and on 10 April 1888, the inaugural meeting of the Central Agricultural Bureau of South Australia was held.

Aims of the Bureau

To supply members with information relevant to there farming practices.

To assist members to address management and production issues by providing them with opportunities to discuss these with other farmers and technical officers.

To work in close cooperation with PIRSA (Primary Industries & Resources South Australia), which has undertaken to support the Bureau and provide technical assistance with the aim to improve agricultural production in South Australia.

To promote goodwill, friendship and understanding among its members and the community at large.

How can it help you?

The Agricultural Bureau has contributed to the distribution of technology and expertise to the farmers of our State for over 100 years. As a result South Australian farmers are recognized as some of the most progressive and efficient operators in the world.

The Bureau is a valuable vehicle for sharing issues with others. The Bureau can be a source of re-assurance that you are not alone. There are other farmers like you with the same issues, and the same interests as you have in making the most of your industry.
